"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

*****************************

It's the seamy side. The price of allowing anonymity. It doesn't have to be published. Mostly it's not.   Discussion is not illuminated by it but it does reflect upon the author and is useful in that context.

It was not ever thus. When I made the decision to file a complaint against Morris  and her cohorts,Geoff Dawe made a contribution to the cause. He was not involved in politics then.

At the start of last term Councillor Abel contributed guest posts to the blog.

Something changed but as everybody knows..... I don't.

I am nothing if not consistent.

Friendship is not essential.between elected officials. Civility in a legal sense is.

The presumption must be, the common objective is the best interest of the municipality.

Parliamentary Rules are the  controlling factor. Adoption of the Bylaw is first item of business in an Inaugural meeting.

Accusing a fellow councillor of criminal behaviour or having the intention is never in order.

John Abel implied that. The Mayor and Presiding member Geoffrey Dawe not only allowed it, he echoed  it.

We all know it's hard, maybe impossible to undo damage. It lingers on. No matter what, some are always willing to  believe.

If  mud is thrown some of it always sticks.

It should not be the price of public service.

What John Abel did  was neither clever or skillful and it wasn't true but It did accomplish the objective.

As I've said, I owe them less than nothing. Our different views on what represents town interest will no doubt continue but I am no longer bound  by engagement to be civil about it.

I  have not and will not  make a habit of publishing nasty comments. Any charlatan can create a variation on the theme. Name -calling is not an argument on the facts.

An anonymous person bad-mouthing  an anonymous person contributes nothing.

An uncomplimentary mental image created by a word picture is different and limited only by imagination.

In case you haven't noticed, this blog is not just a pretty face.

A little full-bodied ribaldry here, a hint of  tartness there and a pinch of hot pepper, just enough to roast an arse, if called for.

The freedom of saying what we're thinking, discovering we are not alone and perhaps encouraging others to join the fray is what we are about.

We live in a free and honest land where life is for living until the last breath.

So just direct your feet ...to the sunny side of the street.

Did I miss something? What "criminal behaviour" was implied?

I do not know why the councillors quit commenting. Sometimes a simple explanation might have stopped a lot of
foolishness in its tracks. But after reading material written by the mayor recently, maybe not. He really needs an
editor. I am sure he does not intend to look simplistic..

Evelyn. Nothing is free in our land. You of all people should know that.
