"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

A DAY TO REMEMBER

I have to stop reading Facebook first in the morning. It's a field ripe for harvest. It seems the way to
eliminate the negative may be to accent the positive and find ways to mess with Mr. Inbetween.

Last week was particularly busy and ended with a Bridal Shower for Kari, who will marry,on July 30th. my grandson Keenan.

Friends and family of the female variety joined mother and sister,Heather and Robyn and Kari's mother Cindy for pre-celebration of the family evolution.

After a week of sun and warmth, thunderstorms were forecast. The party was to be in Heather's backyard. The house  isn't big enough for the crowd expected but  if push came to shove, the couch could be shoved into the bedroom and the crowd pushed into the sitting room and kitchen. it's been done before.

Half Heather's yard is a slope up to a park. It's terraced in flowerbeds and a vegetable garden.A
fountain splashes on rocks from top to bottom. Steps took  the great-grand children with Auntie Steph to the splash pad in the park.

A structure gives enough shade for eight or ten people. Andy and Heather built it together. Andy is regularly commended for his know- how. He always answers the same.

"I don't know how. My wife tells me I can, so I do"   Truth be told, they do to-gether.

Araised fire pit centres the yard. Yesterday a circle of painted plywood covered it with pretty planter in the middle.

The  garden was filled with women of all ages ,in long and short dresses ,in make-up and without, wearing jewelleryand without, each to her own.

Food was ample, colourful and beautifully spread. Bacon, sausages in warming pans, golden waffles, a variety of berries and whipped cream, orange slices, a variety of melons. Bite-sized quiches and sausage rolls, Platters of miniature Cinnamon buns and blueberry muffins. Large round glass jugs of juice and other delectable drinks and carafes of coffee and tea.

Background music played throughout accompanying conversations and laughter.

The gifts were piled on plaid blanket on the lower landing of  steps to the park. Eventually unwrapped individually held up for display and the cards of good wishes noted.

They were kindly given, warmly received and received passing attention.

Keenan is the first of Andy and Heather's offspring to marry. All signs and portents are positive.

It was a happy, happy day.

Forecaste thunder and rain came in the night and left everything fresh and clean, then stayed away throughout the day and came back minutes after the last guest departed and at the moment the last
came through the door blown in on gales of laughter.

Sounds lovely. That was one heck of a thunder storm.
Ron selected the street sale date so well. It generally manages to get fit into the Sunday between gust and other weather nonsense.

OT
Hillary is over the top !

A strange thing at the Street Festival. The Animal Protection folk were called because of a suffering kangaroo at a booth arranged by an insurance outfit in town. You would think they would know about that sort of stuff.

The incident with the animals was terrible. As an animal lover I was discusting to see those pictures and hear about the conditions. Businesses like this should be out of business immediately with criminal charges laid. That being said, I've seen many petting zoo's that are outstanding. Outstanding handlers that care about their animals and the kids that visit. I've brought my kids to many of them where they've been educated about the animals as well as entertained. It would be unfortunate if the chamber and the Town feels that they can no longer bring this back to the street fair next year. I'm sure that the business that sponsored this event and has done so every year is just as upset. The anger should be towards this petting zoo company.

Bernie goes to the White House.
" You ran an excellent campaign, Mr Saunders. Thank you for your service. Can I offer you some coffee ? Tea ?

Bernie did run an excellent campaign, better than the other 2. Not that I would have voted for him. But I have to give my tip my hat to him.

After hearing Bernie's harangue two or three times I stopped listening.

It must be terrible to campaign for months with the same few speeches. Your mind must rot.

I tip my hat to him but it is time for him to start wrapping his campaign up.

No more animals at the Street Wing-ding. That is an over-due decision but a very good one.
Otherwise they had a pretty decent day. Even the weather co-operated
