"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

The Case For Anonymity

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Stupidity Triumphs":

Fear-mongering is the new buzz-word. It is used to define anyone who differs.

Moderate comments for this blog.

***************

It's not a new  buzz word.  Winston Churchill. was accused of it when he tried to warn the British government of the meaning of Nazi Germany's massive re-armament.

The private sector in Britain were supplying the  raw materials for the re-armament. After the war there were still bills if lading owing by the Krupp 's Empire to the British suppliers.

That was in the early thirties.

I'm still ruminating about my how the blog will change. Yesterday's chat brought out something that makes anonymity useful.

There  was a comment about how Hallowe'en is being altered in school.

An angry response said itn. Are from an on-line article about a school in Paris, Ontario. and it was fear-mongering and  trying to worry people about how our culture is changing.

Turned out it wasn't  at all about an on-line article.

The information came from  the mother of a teacher whose son-in-law is also a teacher.
If anonymity were not allowed, two teachers might have easily been identified.

The comment would never have been  made.

Hallowe'en would be sanitized  rendered meaningless and  we would never have known when ,how or why it disappeared.

It is happening to Christmas - a little more creep each year. Makes figuring out decorations for the classes and hall a challenge. And carol concerts - forget about it.

Geez, it's really tough being a white, Christian person in this country these days, isn't it? We're all so oppressed.

I see no problem with letting kids make holiday decorations in their art time- stringing popcorn or colouring picture of Christmas trees hurts no one. School administrations should expend their energies on re-vamping the math core and figuring out why the " literacy " teams they employ have shown no score improvements in years.

Last night we had kids of all ages, sizes & shapes on the doorstep. Seventy-nine, I think but we could have miss-counted. They sure were not all white and I have no idea or interest in their religion. Not one said " Happy Spooky Day " .

Winter is at the door. Bring in the hoses.

Youngsters weren't the only ones on the prowl. The last of the signage seems to have been removed. Not sure how long it would take to get a vehicle repainted though,

I've been thinking about that anonymity issue. With the next election so far off, perhaps it would be possible for you to place some general rules into effect ?
Maybe a version of what Mr Watts uses with you knowing who the individuals are but there a being a place for aliases ? There is one character out there who will howl about free speech but this is YOUR space.

Everyone should "howl about free speech" - maybe even a little louder at this particular time of the year.
