"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Budget Pickings

Anonymous Anonymous said...

and you should keep chipping away , but get a bigger hammer becuse this budget your working on could use some chipping away at, Its time to tell the rate payers just what's in store for us , Perhaps a nice long list of the intended waste would be a good place to start, We are waiting !

****************

We spent from nine on Saturday morning until almost five in the evening on the Capital budget. We deleted only one item.

We have a community garden. It was at the Jack Wood's property. We transferred it when the property went on sale. Previously the gardeners used the old horse barn for tools. Now they want the town to provide a shed at a cost $30K.

Forty people have individual garden plots. The town transferred the soil they built in their former location. The parks department provides roto-tilling and other bits and pieces of assistance. We are good to the gardeners. I'm not even sure all of them are from Aurora.

We did not provide them with a thirty-thousand dollar shed. Not inclined to ask taxpayers to pay for that.

But it was slim pickings.

I went at the $100k for the Arboretum group.Last year's project, according to Gordon Barnes, spokesperson for the group was $85K for a landscaping project at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex.

I can't see parks getting half that money for a project like that. Can't see them asking for it. But we're all set to give it to a volunteer organization because of all the volunteer work they do. And they do. I am the bad guy for suggesting we shouldn't be handing over a hundred thousand dollars for something not absolutely necessary when we are facing a 7.8 hike in taxes. But what's the point. I'm still the bad guy and they are still getting the money.

More hair-raising stuff later

No you are not the Bad Guy Councillor ,you happen to be one of the very few who says what most people think but are to fearful to show their colors,if you took a pole of this community it's not likley many would agree to tossing hundreds of thousand of tax payers money into a swamp ,just so a few wierdos can play, since when did volunteering turn into squandering huge money on this kind of nonsense.
