"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

WE ARE NOT THAT DIFFERENT

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "FROM A DISTANCE":

7:28- We only hear about the ones the media decides to tell us

************************************************

It's  true. If we didn't hear it from the media, we wouldn't hear it at all

Except for social media .

And of course, candidates.

If the bellicose billionaire was the sole source of truth and authenticity about himself and his critics ,the world community would be poorly served.

Unquestionably, every country  has a vital interest in the outcome of this election. None greater than our own.

But weird and twisted as it is,the image he alone deliberately created.

Donald Trump is entirely culpable.

But he had help.

A Republican controlled Congress has consistently refused to work with a Democrat President and
repeatedly brought government to a grinding halt.

The day after the Pope's visit, Catholic Speaker John  Beynan acknowleded failure  to do his job and surrendered the responsibility.

His successor Paul Ryan, also Catholic, conditionally accepted the Speaker's role. He had to be persuaded.

Even as we speak, Republican Leader Mitch McConnell increases his party's irrelevance by refusing to adhere to normal process to fill a Supreme Court vacancy created by a death.

Nature abhors a vacuum.

Donald Trump rushed in where angels fear to tread.

He  exploits public frustration with the failed Washington Establishment.

Each chord he touches adds to the discordant melody.

In the vernacular, he gives voice to frustration. A powerful echo of despair and disenchantment clangs like heavy metal over the air waves.

Foul language and horrifying images permeate social media.

Murders, suicides and human degradation are everyday news in both countries.

Canadian frustration with government is not that far removed.

This week, a criminal convicted with his father of murdering an aunt and three sisters has appealed his conviction because he was under-age at the time he committed the crime.

Prime Minister Trudeau apparently made the solitary decision, people who breach the Oath of Citizenship should continue to enjoy security of Citizenship while  female victims of Sharia law  are denied protection under Canadian law.

There's no evidence the Prime Minister  reflects public sentiment . No sign of public consultation. No indication or acknowledgement of the public's right to influence national policy on the issue.

Committee Hearings on far less contentious issues drone on for weeks. Recommendations may or may not be accepted. Legislation may or may not be written.

No process of examination has been  followed on the question of right or privilege of citizenship.

What about all the Canadian women and girls currently denied protection of Canadian law in favour of laws entirely abhorrent to our culture?

What's happening south of our border could easily happen here.

We have all the makings.

I'm sure there's a Bellicose Billionaire  hiding in the bushes waiting for the right time to emerge

Obama has put forward the name of a suggested Supreme Justice. It seems to be a moderate but the republicans will block it just because it is what they always do. If Trump gets in, they may be very sorry that they did not to take this person.

Not too many billionaires though.
It should be pointed out that Donald t did not create his billions out of thin air. His Dad gave him a huuuuuuge start-up
gift and then left him millions with which to play. He still managed to go bankrupt 4 times. Someone pointed out that just investing on the stock index might have earned him as much without all the lawsuits along the way.

Couldn't agree with you more Evelyn.

We already had the "Anybody but Harper" campaign. I'm sure we'll see "Anybody but Trudeau and Wynn" in the next election. It won't be someone with Billions either, but someone with an arrogance and tenacity of Trump. I'm sure they're building their war chest as we speak, and taking notes with this US election.

It's all a big show for Trump. I very much hope he gets beaten along the way just to see how he reacts.
