"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Saga Of The Petch House Nearing Completion

There used to be a vociferous group at the Market collecting money for the Petch House. What happened to the organization and the money raised? on Oh Dear... What Can The Matter Be
***********8
I believe I heard  the name mentioned again recently in connection with the Farmers Market , certainly in connection with the culture centre. A small amount of funds  were declared  raised for  the Petch house. The commitment has been made to use them for the purpose when  or if the opportunity arises.
Th funds that were in town hands for the project, included $50,000 from the developer, $25,000 donated anonymously and what was left of  the $100,000 originally budgeted  repeatedly by the town over a period pf years and over my  repeated  objections.
The entire project was more than a decade long saga. Every effort was made to scare up a use and a site for the building with no success.

We sought ideas from everywhere except town staff. Finally after a half million dollar cost was cited  for a design proposed by a  second consultant , who was paid several thousand dollars for his  service, an  idea and a location came to light.
Apparently, there has since  been  another interest expressed . Certainly if the proponent is willing to pay what it cost to redeem the structure ,I would not be averse to hearing a proposal.
A great deal of hemming and hawing ,and provocative declarations were engaged before $75,000 in donated funds tipped the balance in the decision to save the building.
It seems there can be a use.  When completed , the  restored building will be in full view of the public I have seen pictures of its twin. It's  not half bad to look at..I don't believe he town will be embarrassed. And if  use of he building proves to be appreciated, there will be no shame in the decision made.
I can claim to be rooted in the past and capable of  changing my obdurate mind at one and the same time.
Yes I can.
As Councillor John Gallo stated flippy at the time the decision was made. "Ya gotta love politics."
Yes indeed, I echo that sentiment absolutely.
I  make no apology  for having more to say about the Petch House, good bad and indifferent and mostly bad, tha anyone else on the planet and changing my mind when a reasonable option  was proposed.
It's called flexibility.  Like patience, seldom found in woman and never found in man.

I am without shame. I am proudly  political;.

What is the connection that you've heard between the Petch House and the Cultural Centre?
