In politics, drama lies in the unexpected.
I doubt much was unexpected in yesterday's Liberal Leadership Conference.
The candidates pulled out two by two and knew the chances beforehand. Secondary moves would be calculated .
Sandra Pupatello obviously knew she was a long shot . You can't quit and come back scant months later and declare passionate commitment to be leader of the party.
At one pint though she had Greg Sorbars in her box and a couple of pink turbans. Aha ,I thought1 the Woodbridge Italians and the Sikhs, however many there are i Ontario.
Gerard Kennedy and Charles Sousa clearly had no chance .But their separate handfuls of delegates were coin of the realm.
So the only drama happened at the end.
The votes were counted. The two candidates were called to the platform for announcement of the winner.
When that happened, the loser grabbed the winner's hand, raised it in triumph., marched back and forth across the platform a couple of times.then proceeded to give the winning speech.
The winner was left to pick up the crumbs.
She did; with grace.
It would have taken more to dim the excitement of becoming instantly the first female Premier of Ontario.
But when reality returns along with the effort to re-live the moment ,Kathleen will know.
And everyone else will know she knows.

I have been reading agendas. It looks like a busy week. It also looks as though the CAO is ' volunteering ' to take a few more decision-making opportunities from Council. Heaven forbid the elected reps should worry their little heads!

Did you see who one of the delegates from the Newmarket-Aurora riding assn was? Yep, the disgraced former mayor.

How is she a disgraced Mayor? She lost the Mayor's seat through an election. Are the other candidates also disgraced?
Is she disgraced as a Liberal deligate? Clearly she had the riding association's endorsement. I think that a lot of people consider her disgraced, she does not see it the same way and has moved on.

Perhaps you can enlighten me? I do not know how the delegates are selected. Is there a vote by the membership or is it an appointment? That would make a big difference to my way of thinking.
That might explain why she was decorating the tree on Mr Whitehurst's front lawn. That was quite puzzling.
Is it a paying job?
Sandra Pupatello is claiming - Globe/Yesterday - that she was double-crossed by Eric Hoskins. So you were right in saying if she won, you would know the fix was in. Seems it was in place but didn't work. Or so we are supposed to believe.
