"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARTIFACTS

John C. has left a new comment on your post "Jack And The Beanstalk":

Where did the 1400 missing artifacts go.I think David might have been right to raise concerns and that was quite some time ago.

*********************

The artifacts were the responsibility of the Historical Society. Storage had to be found when the old School was  closed for renovations.

Bits and pieces picked up here and there indicate the  collections had to be stashed in several places.Hillary House, basements, attics, rental storage.

I recall something about school desks  disposed of because they were not authentic Aurora artifacts .
There likely just  wasn't a place to put them.

The school was closed  for seven years.  And for four more there was no museum. The Society is a volunteer agency.   Members  come and members go. Presidents  change.

Under the circumstances , it's  not surprising the collection is not complete.

There certainly isn't anyone to blame.

There may be still a stash  hidden  in an attic or a basement.

I'm not speaking with any certainty

Just looking forward to getting things back on track.

We have a very small red Fiat and I am growing increasingly concerned that by spring it might have become a lost artefact.

There are already some good-sized holes in some of the town's roads and the compounding damage of snow, occasional melting followed by very cold freezes is going to make this only worse.

Would it be possible to divert some of the talk and energy from multimillion dollar pie-in-the-sky wish lists to the condition of our roads?

It is my fondest hope (not a wish) that our little cutie will still be providing our basic transportation needs this spring, rather than having vanished as just another lost artefact.

There you go bringing common sense back into the argument. Why would you want council to be concerned with things like roads?

Come on, we have problems getting the garbage picked up because it is cold.. the council thinks that we can put garbage in clear bags, that will solve the problem.

Meanwhile, Henderson was repaved what, 3 years ago. Then significantly repaired the following year and now it is like a warzone again.

Council needs to fix the basics before they go half-cocked on things they know nothing about like culture.

21:02 What you’re asking for is a need for this Town. Some members of council have no interest in looking at Town needs, but have this desire to look and spend our money on wants for a selected few. Maybe we can change that come October.

While town business is being discussed here & on christopher's site, Cllr Ballard is quoting an unknown dog. One has to wonder about priorities.

Without proper roads we won't be able to drive safely to the Culture Centre, to the proposed Heritage Park. So what's the point in having these expensive facilities if we can't get to them?

Let's look at the ground, not up into the sky.
