"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

The Deed is not yet Done

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Forefinger to the floor, man And Keep to the Beat...":

This is a typical decision of this Council, be it as a result of a staff recommendation or not.

There might have been a little study, a teeny tiny one, a consultant's opinion obtained, and then based on incomplete or inaccurate information a decision taken.

Only to find out that the decision was flawed and that the new lighting system will not work as envisaged.

The solution now requires human input and ongoing time to be spent by staff to correct something that should have been known in advance.

This is a further poor reflection on this Council and makes one wonder what other little screw-ups they have wrought.

*********************

The decision was $3 million for the capital construction budget.

The budget  isn't finalized yet.

Maybe someone else  on  Council saw the feature about  the  Mississauga  experience.

St John's Sideroad and Leslie Street are being brought up to urban lighting standards this year.

The cost will be financed from new development funding. It's a good  place to start with a new product.

Then wait for the glitches to be fixed and the price to come down.

Imagine the amount of land fill needed to accommodate the  still functional lights being replaced.

What's the conservation factor  employed there ?

Thank you for your thoughtful kindness.

The last time the family gathered in London was to celebrate Craig's  wedding.

Sounds to me like they believe the Budget is set in stone & it's time for the mutual congratulations we saw last year between staff & Council. Two budget meetings have been deemed -" Not Needed. " If they had stuck to the basics & hammered that down, then perhaps a frill or two would have been accepted. As it is, everyone in town seems pissed off at the extravagances.

Mississauga also had a flat budget in the past. Our Mayor is on record in the Aurora as not approving of such a thing. It would be great if we could copy the good things from other communities instead of trying to be ' better '. That is so childish.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Aurora Cultural Centre has always annoyed me. Cultural is an adjective and when used in the way it has been it is incorrect grammatically.

Aurora Culture Centre is the correct title that should be used with this building. It far better describes what it is and what it does.

On the subject of "culture," Aurora's residents come from a diverse number of countries and cultures.

How would it be if one room in the Culture Centre was dedicated to a display of these various cultures, one at a time, for a period of one month?

These could feature various family artefacts, items of clothing, photographs, different foods and recipes, sporting activity, books, music, art, handicrafts, etc. Items that reflect the historical heritage of each country could also be incorporated.

This would be an educational event that might capture the interest of a whole new group of people who may have never been to the Centre, and by so doing expose them to all of the Centre's already existing and worthy activities.

Maybe even raise some money in the process.

I recall Councillor Gaertner voting against a budget because she thought the Library was getting too much money ! Surely there is enough real nonsense in the current one to keep it at the table or have it shot down ?

Everyone? Are you sure? Maybe it's only those prone to exaggeration and hyperbole.

I am not able to understand the treasurer's shifting of money around so that somehow everything ends up not costing much. But I can understand when councilllors are being stupid with money. And it is their names that go on the voting list.

I see they've slotted another closed session for 6 on Tuesday. That must make it a really long night.

It's that perspective issue again. Maybe you aren't talking to the same people. Going on the votes held by the Auroran to date [ which you will claim must be flawed ] there have been solid disapproval ratings for over-the-top spending. Anecdotal material tends to confirm that.

"It's that perspective issue again."

Yes, you're correct - some people have it, some don't.

You really are a condescending twit.
Any view except for your own is suspect and awarded with mockery. You regularly take out new commenters just for a buzz.
Arrogance is thine.

Consistency isn't its strong suit either. The other day it was declaring the Work Depot too expensive.

This is just dumb. You don't fix what isn't broken.

20:41, that must have been a different "condescending twit."

Gee, it must be awful being mistaken for another twit.
