"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

FROM A DISTANCE

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN":

We have to hope Trump falters. Right now he is totally off his meds. And his rabid  followers love it

****************************************

We see it from a distance.
Our perspective may be skewed.
On the other hand.....

The candidate has lurched between contradictions since the start.

Literally.

In the morning he makes a reference.
In the evening, he denies it.
He has no shame.

I think the audience await breathlessly for the unexpected . They may want to be able to tell their grandchildren they were there when.....

Add Chris Christie and  Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardie come to mind.  Add  Ben Carson and the Three Stooges are conjured  up. One more unlikely character and the Marx Brothers will be on centre stage.

Friday night was interesting and dangerous. Police  presence was not huge.
Thousands of excited people in the same place chanting, hopping up and down, snatching signs.
By the end of the evening  the police reported to the media;  no arrests and no injuries.

Yet the media reported violence.

After weeks of  encouraging followers to beat the crap out of protesters, carry them out on stretchers, smash them in the face, get them out of here, the absent candidate cancelled the rally and told his followers;

"Go in Peace"

That's the final  salutation of a priest to  the congregation at the end of a mass.

How malapro is that?

Next day, four arrests were reported in the news. Considering the thousands present and potential for catastrophe, four arrests are hardly mob violence.

A policeman calmly walked across, in front of the camera, with blood on his head. The reporter said he had been hit with a bottle. Except for the  blood ,there was nothing to indicate injury or incapacity.

Nobody, including the cameraman paid the slightest mind  to him nor did he seem to be seeking attention.

The event was surreal.

But the story is not over yet.

It has a way to go.

I read that, in Ohio, 17 teen year olds will be allowed to vote. That should open yet another can of worms.

Geese are waddling around as well.

Hillary did well with her town hall meeting yesterday. I had no idea she was in favor of the death penalty. That was very disappointing. Bernie will be out by tomorrow. If Hillary can stay on course and keep quiet about Trump she will beat him. It's one of their biggest mistakes they both make, the keep referring to Trump.

Like ignoring the gorilla in the room.
Such a long election period.

There are so many reasons to be grateful that the Canadian elections turned out as they did/ Not perfect, of course. BUT-
all that anger and hate can just stay on the other side of the border as far as I;m concerned.

Security only seems to be a serious concern at the rallies of one candidate.

Trump lost Ohio to the guy who had been governor. He's the only republican candidate not catering to the lowest common denominator.
