"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

In The Shade Of The Old Apple Tree

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Making Sense Of An Election.":

"Aurora knows zip about raising trees".

Surely you will correct this readers ignorance Councilor , Aurora has one of the best tree planting programs going and has for many years , where do these folks come up with this stuff

********************
It's amazing where we hear this stuff repeated.

A couple of weeks ago, during a Public Planning meeting, Council listened for a hour and a half to  people rallied by Susan Walmer to persuade us the town  knew nothing about tree cover and our responsibilities to protect the environment.

There may even be a couple on Council who feel their knowledge on the subject is superior .

It's not easy to listen when you know how much has been invested over fifty years in doing the best job  possible of protecting tree cover and planting trees.

It's actually quite difficult to maintain composure, when they rise one after another and inform Council  of their professional expertise and repeat their lines, as if prompted, which of course we know they have, by Susan Walmer, whose political objective, is not about trees.

There they stand, knowing absolutely nothing about the town's
tree program, supremely confident of  their  superior ability to set the town  on the straight.and  narrow path.

I will never understand why otherwise intelligent  people allow themselves to be used that way.

Globe article by John Lorinc about trees dying on Bloor Street. They were planted in the fall instead of the spring. London Plane trees might not be troubled by the ash-attacking bug, but they have other challenges.
Lots of expensive advisors and they got it wrong.
