"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Didn't Hear That

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "We Shall See What We Shall See":

Is the chair of the board not a paid position ? I thought that it came with a salary of $60,000
.

I have not heard  that. I would be very surprised if it was true.
I have heard frequent references to the  fact board members are volunteers.
Councillor Gaertner frequently expounds the theory  the town  should provide volunteers with lots of money to spend to encourage people to volunteer.
*********
The Historical Society is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year.
Not sure why. They abandoned the museum, made an issue of who owns the collection and came up with that crazy scheme  to spend millions for  History Disneyland in Aurora to put the town on the map.
The Town is already on the map for a few things . Like challenging a person's Charter Rights  for example.

All kinds of  interesting tid-bits on  Toronto newscasts today.connected to the court decision that allows the  man who was elected Mayor, to seve as the Mayor  and save the city  seven, nine, eleven and twelve million dollars., whoever one happens to be listening to.
Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday  mentioned a few saving during   Ford's tenure: contracts privatised.  Hard fought negotiations with savings, Thirteen hundred surplus jobs removed from the payroll. New jobs as contracts each with  savings  of millions
The budget is billions. But the tax increase is 2%.
I missed the  town's budget meeting on Monday. I hear some good work was done.

The president of the Cultural Centre board is paid "Nil, Nada, Nothing. Zilch and Zero."

I think you're misinformed commenter is thinking of the Ken Whitehurst situation.

One interesting thing that the Star seems to have missed. All 3 challenges to Mayor Ford come from men in the same ward who have worked together in the past. They may all be filtering through the same law firm but I'm not sure about this next one about election expenses. The first 2 would appear to be on Clay Ruby's watch.

What is the "Whitehurst situation" ?

There is no current " Whitehurst situation ". Echoes of the past. There certainly was one during an earlier period.
