"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Advice ... Warning.....or Threat.?

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "The time of reckoning is almost upon us.":

Evelyn - you are just a couple words away from another law suit - you know, the law suit that Gallo agreed to continue to fund with our, the taxpayers money ......... how soon we forget - the difference is that you can say just about anything (and you have) about Mayor Dawe, and he would never do what was done to you ... a little respect please, you seem to be digging yourself in to a hole come election time ..... i just hope you run for Mayor, now that would definitely change your tune!

Thank you for  the advice. I believe it is well intended.

I have served  as Mayor  I am not unfamiliar with what goes along with the office.

By no means do I underestimate the demands of the Mayor's office. Not  least is to suffer  the  slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.

Mayor Dawe  was given an opportunity for no other reason than the negative rating of the person who previously held the office.

Two litigations were launched  during that term.An  early attempt was pursued for two years at town expense  before being abandoned.

The Mayor previous  to the last was  target of that effort.

A Code of Conduct was re-written during the last  term. The  initial edition prohibited
criticism of council decisions . The clause was  removed at a point not evident.

Subsequent events were  amply publicized.

Confusion  about who is suing who and why is always a surprise.

I look forward  to being able to freely discuss particulars of the particular.

In the meantime, it is a fact respect in politics is not a given. It is hard-earned.

It is also an essential key to success

All politicians  start with benefit of the doubt.

Opportunity is given to build trust.

Failure is not a standstill.

 It's a step backward.

And hard to regain.

All the information is still available on the Citizen for those finding their memories challenged.

Gallo is not an option here in Aurora. He will not have the people of Newmarket help vote him in as Mayor of Aurora, unlike his friend Ballard.
Ballard can thank the people of Newmarket for his win, it certainly wasn't because of the residents in Aurora.

14:25 and the rest of the amateur political pundants amaze me.

Ballard won because Newmartket supported him and not Aurora. Was Twinney as well liked in Newmarket-centric politics as what you think Ballard was in Aurora?

The past provincial election was one where you could have put a pig in the election for the Liberals and it would have won the seat. The local candidate made no difference here. If you switched them around and Ballard was the PC, he would have lost. It was just that kind of election.

Based on how much you think Ballard was disliked at Town Hall, I think that more Aurorans would have voted for him as an MPP so that he would not be a factor at Town Council any longer.

I'm not a fan of either Mr. Gallo or Mr. Ballard, but you'll have to check your numbers as I did at the Ontario Elections website for the poll results. Many explanations could be there that Twinney wasn't well known in Aurora, the scandals of the PC candidates didn't help, people voted against Hudak or that Ballard did a better job of getting out there. Who really knows? But the numbers show that Ballard actually won separately by more votes in Aurora, in Newmarket and in the advance polls. What you should say is simply that Mr. Gallo isn't running in Newmarket.

@Both 16:01's
Thank you for the breakdown of how the numbers went. There is an untold story that must exist to explain those results. The only thing I know for certain is that Ballard was not the first choice of the liberals - I have no knowledge of what happened with the conservatives. Really weird stuff.

Christopher, as usual, is on the right side of the fence, even though it is a wretched crumbling wreck.

The Aurora Historical Society should arrange to have it repaired forthwith, or refund to the Town $50,000 of the $70,000 that was given it, for what purpose I frankly do not know.

I would propose that the AHS is also a wretched crumbling wreck.
