"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

I'm Not Going Back There Again

The lawn mower repair shop zoning has changed to heavy equipment repairs.

He is no longer in contravention of light engine repairs which only allowed watch repairs, jewellery, camera, toys, orthopaedic device and wheelchair repairs.

It cost him $2,200 for the application to the Committee of Adjustment to get the zoning to heavy equipment repairs.

He bought the unit for the purpose. He used it for several years for the purpose. All of a sudden he was served notice of contravention.

When he called me I asked him if he was bad friends with anyone in the complex. He said no but the condo manager seemed to have a problem.

When I brought it up in Council, there was sympathy for the man. Councillor Thompson took exception that I was suggesting he didn't care about small business.

I think I said all they cared about was highflying crazy stuff like fantasy parks.

The Mayor however seemed to be concerned about the Condominium Bylaws I know nothing about condominium bylaws. Except to say ..... they are not the business of the town Bylaws department.

I filed that little tid-bit away. I am repeatedly adjured I need to read other people's websites.

I don't want to.

I know I infuriate by things I am willing to talk about....or the words I use...or what they perceive to be disrespect and I perceive to be the opposite.

They are entitled. But I don't need to read about it.

This morning I took up the Mayor's invitation to read the homily he presented to the joint congregation of Trinity and United Church a couple of Sundays ago.

Then I decided I ought to visit John Gallo's web site.

Initial searches turned up nothing. Then I typed in Mayor John Gallo and up she popped.

Well I never, I thought.

There was little of any interest after that.  I will not be visiting either again soon.

I checked Gallo's site a week or so ago. I was left wondering if he is still in the race for mayor?

I sure hope he is. Our mayor needs some competition and to account for tax increases and spending.

Who is "he"?

Not to cast any aspersions as I do not understand the nature of the new media. But from what I have observed, the Facebook [ is that a blog ? ] of Councillor Gallo was launched with great fan-fare and then croaked. My kids said you are supposed to ' grow ' followers. His number seems static and the last few addition of information date from back around the street sale.
The only relevance to my comment is that the kids have deserted Facebook. They say it is a waste of time.

Funny, how he never changed the title of his website post and the url so that it still reads "Mayor Gallo". You would have thought a little editing was in order at his site to keep it straight & proper. (Perhaps it just likes the sound of it and if we keep repeating it, it must be true).

The Mayor used to have good writers, I sure hope we are not paying for communications staff to work on his material. They need every minute to figure out how to remedy their own on-going challenges.

Let the local twitter-bugs take care of that flank. They appear to be doing an excellent job.
