It may be I am slow on the uptake. Or perhaps too trusting of the process and the systems of checks and
balances.
My experience of the last Council was unlike any other. To some extent, the same inexplicable element of spite and perfidy were present in the council previous.
It still wasn't enough to shake my confidence that the town's interest did not rest with Council alone.
Provincial laws and regulations and Statutory Officers required on staff meant,to me, the municipality's interest must be protected.
After I finished my last post ,I pondered the point I had made that the Centre board had a lawyer when the agreement was written and the town had none.
The town paid for their lawyer while we had none.
It was only from an e-mail,Councillors received in the days before last Tuesday's decision, we learned the board's lawyer had advised the board and he was a former Councillor.
Even then I failed to comprehend who that lawyer was until he appeared at Tuesday's meeting;flANKED BY BOARD MEMBERS IN THE FRONT ROW WHERE HE COUlD AFFIX HIS GLOWER UPON US throughout the proceedings.
I heard yesterday board members started to assemble at 6,15 pm to ensure front row positions.The significance escaped me I knew only one of the faces.
It was only this morning, I allowed myself to think, if Damir Vranci is the board's lawyer, advising the board as to the merits of the agreement,why would Damir Vrancic not be the only lawyer acting in the matter of an agreement between the town and the board.
Well,foolish me.
Another piece of the puzzle sees to fit.

I had surmised that lawyers, as officers of the court, are to appear in public as impartial custodians of the law.
It is in court, where they are representing one side or another, that their true feelings are allowed to surface. Unless, of course, they are courting the sympathy of a jury, wherein anything goes.
The motive is winning, not necessarily justice.
Christopher has a post about Aurora's Communication Department and I find myself agreeing with his conclusion which appears to be that it has problems that money will not solve and is lagging behind neighbouring towns in promoting the town. This is particularly evident when most of us obtain information from the Blogs and the increasingly improved Auroran.
I turn only to Aurora's web-site for Council meetings, agenda and minutes and, even there, one can encounter an up to 3 day delay due to ' technical difficulties.'
People should not find out about the Christmas tree lighting from a Blog. And to spend advertising dollars on the largely unread Banner is simply wasteful.
I doubt of the Auroran wants to become the Town's main media outlet - Ron wouldn't never consider it. So some innovation is needed and the current team at Communications shows no sign of that. I know Humphreyes has an interest in this field and Ballard professes expertise. They have been in place for plenty of time for us to be seeing evidence that they are not just throwing money at the problem. Time for Show and Tell we can actually use.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Is the ACC the only organization for whom Aurora provides a rent-free building and fantastic funding that sees fit to field lawyers when it comes to negotiations with the Town? Like, can you see the Library Board turning up with legal aid in tow?
It is hard to believe the ACC has a lawyer so we will have to wait for that to be confirmed. I had thought their refusal to negotiate and insistence on secret meetings was due to ignorance. Surely that couldn't have been on legal advice. Most lawyers tell their clients to deal with a problem promptly so as to minimize impact. The ACC managed to infuriate the very people who wanted most to help them survive with a renewed, improved agreement. The old one was unsustainable and had to go. A lawyer would advise they make as good a deal as they could with dispatch.
Whoa ! Maybe Damir volunteers legal advice? I sure hope that Aurora town money isn't going to pay someone to oppose Council and create chaos.
This is like trying to negotiate with a bunch of pre-schoolers. It should be obvious that Aurora can not AFFORD to finance their way of life. Nothing to do with services provided and that great feeling derived from spending other people's money. Certainly not like any infrastructure provided by the Region. Aurora is NOT to Region.
I am so sick of repeating it but bottom line is that the damn thing costs more than we can AFFORD.

You must be kidding, these bottom feeders will jump through hoops a mile wide to keep their iron in the financial fire, even more with the allure of the bottomless municipal pit of funds, listen closely and you will hear that sucking sound of jingle being vacuumed from our treasury with no end in sight

No in fact they are not, the former hydro building comes to mind, just ask Councilor Buck what that give away has cost us , the financial impact of that blunder pales in comparison to the Culture calamity

Go ahead and ask her. What you will get is emotional rhetoric with fales statements around "what could have been". The reality is that the Town and DND have a valid lease agreement. The Town is receiving rent payments. This is no way similar to ACC.
