"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Now we know a bit more

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Sometimes the point needs to be made":

I am by no means a fan of Dan Hill's music. However, I can certainly tell you that I know who he is. Anyone that has a passing knowledge of Canadian music should know who he is. If you have never heard of Dan Hill, then perhaps you spend too much time on the blogs - you need to get out of your parents' basements.

By the way Evelyn, I don't think Dan Hill's wife would agree with you that he is gay.

His song "Sometimes When We Touch" reached #3 on the Billboard top 100 chart in 1977 for crying our loud.

He has a brother who is an author and one of his books was turned into a mini-series about to hit the CBC called "The Book of Negroes".

*******************************

I am familiar with the song  and I like it.

But I confess to not being particularly or even barely familiar with vocal artists even of 1977 vintage.

Admittedly I have ben pre-occupied with other matters.

Do you suppose it is possible, Evelyn, that the centre is using your Blog to stimulate their ticket sales ? because I can't see these individuals being discussed anywhere else.

I submitted the post that you have just commented on. No, I have nothing to do with the ACC or SCC or Centre or whatever you want to call it. I am a proud supporter of Canadian Music however. We have, as a country, spent a lot of money to ensure Canadian Content on radio stations. Sometimes it has been money well spent, other times not.

I am not a fan of mis-information. So, I like to point out information that will hopefully enlight some people. To say that you have never heard of Dan Hill - like an individual did - speaks to their ignorance of Canadian music history. I almost used the term "Canadian culture", but stopped short thinking that it may be used against me.

Also, to say that someone is gay is not only not relavent to the conversation, it is wrong in this case - so a correction is needed.

I don't care what you think of the ACC but to drag a person down because you don't like his music or never heard of him is not fair to that individual. He has obviously been booked to play the ACC, he more than likely knows nothing about the building, where it came from, how it's funded or anything pertinent to you. He is being paid to do his job and he should be left alone to do that.

I'm looking at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Still looking

15:58 None of the performers have been "dragged " down. Some people know them, some don't! I've heard of Dan Hill, had to Google his hits and then said: oh ya him! Had know idea that he was black, white, married, divorced, or whatever! Never heard of the other performers . Not knowing or remembering who these people are or look like doesn't mean they're disliked or liked for that matter. Hope you enjoy Dan Hill. I'll be waiting for Brian Adams to come.

Halls of Fame are not the gold standard that I would trust. Especially considering that the SWHoF is now a SOCAN property. SOCAN is one of the most crooked organizations at fleecing small businesses for money without legislation to back up their claims.

But, feel free to use whatever you think backs up your case.
