MIndless Robotic Campaigns Are a Negative

"Yes...e-mails to the Premier's Office would be a start.Your M.P.and M.L.A , Mayor and Councillors should also be on your list."
Okay, so some e-mail campaigns are good, ... but some aren't?!

The e-mail campaign in support of the Culture Centre was a mindless robotic event.

Of 350 e-mails received, two out of three were from people who live elsewhere and contribute zilch to cost of providing the service.

Messages began the same way, indicating minimum  effort or intelligence  on the part of  organisers. Non-resident status and ignorance of the issue did nothing to persuade.

Aurora residents certainly do have the right to influence their own Council on any issue.A thoughtful exchange is always welcome.

Support and encouragement doubly so.

 Council has an obligation to exercise judgement and make a decision in the interest of the community as a whole, openly and transparently.

It doesn't mean  every member must agree.

Whatever judgement  is  expounded will itself be judged.

Vigorous debate  brings  forth  the pros and cons of  an issue.

We have a rule that limits a Councillor speaking to ten minutes.

A delegation can be three. Not necessarily Aurora residents. Fifteen minutes of council time can be used.

A person elected by the people can be cut off in mid-sentence at ten minutes.

I voted against the procedure bylaw. That was  one of the reasons. I think it's preposterous that a person elected should be limited in time allowed to speak on a contentious issue.

But I digress.

My previous post responded to a question about people being involved in making things better. I made a suggestion.

If enough people were to exercise their right to provide an opinion on a given issue,I think it would have an influence.

It has never been easier to do.

As for mindless robotic campaigns, I may be influenced  but certainly not in a favourable way.
