"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

The Figures

In 2009 the  Market  received  $4014. for operating costs from the Town. Revenue from permit fees would have been less than $3000.

The   Jazz lot, spin-off from the Market, received a  $2,500 sponsorship in 2010 .

Again  in 2011 , I think $7,500 from the current council. Councillor Ballard argued they had to get support from the municipality to help them get the $75,000 Trilium grant.

After they presented accounts that showed another break-even event, they didn't get any more money from the Town so they folded their  tents and went to Newmarket.

The Market received nothing in 2011 and  12 but they applied for a  $1000  Cultural and Recreation grant from the Town  in 2012 and got it.  Nothing in 2013.

No record of an application for grant this year but it's early days. Ms Kroeplin is certainly sufficiently bold.  The victory in heading off a review of the Market  By-law would likely be encouragement
enough.

I have particulars of  different dribs and drabs we give to the Chamber of Commerce. They include buying a foursome at the Chamber's Golf Tournament.

As well as the fee that would mean four  directors having a day to play. They have a name to justify  that. I just can't think of the right one at the moment.

Council  doesn't get to approve those items.  The CAO has authority to spend money on stuff like that.

The Duke  of York is in Town tomorrow. Guest of the Queen's York Rangers. There's a luncheon in
Richmond Hill somewhere. Tickets are $150. I figured I didn't need to spend $150. of the taxpayers money to break bread with his August Majesty.

I expect the Mayor will be there. Maybe the Rangers will send him a courtesy ticket. Seeing as how he's the  Town's Chief Magistrate an'all.

It would be kind of weird to have the Duke in town and not have the Mayot on hand to bring greetings.

But  you never know. I told you how they changed the  name  of the Armories when they got our Hydro building. They re-named  themselves Colonel John Graves  Simcoe Armories.

His Royal Highness  is coming  over after to officiate in  re-naming Civic Square Park to The Queen's Diamond Jubilee  Park.

I wanted a nice rose garden planted ,like Queen Mary's Rose Garden  in Regent Park in
London.  Councillor Pirri wanted it to be a playground for disabled children.

We don't  have  either. Last year was the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

I called this morning to see how the playground is proceeding. Apparently cost  has zoomed to $500,000.

A reception  is to be held at the Skylight Gallery in the Town Hall afterwards.

Advanced polls  are being held  in the Town Hall and construction is going on  in the lobby but I expect we'll manage.

It would be shame for him to be in town and not officiate at our small tribute to his mother.
