"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Being careful to just speak for myself so I don't get my head snapped off, I am deeply disappointed in what we did in that election. And I accept my share of the blame for listening to words that turned out to be as substantial as fluff on the bedroom floor

You should not be disappointed in what we did.

There was something evil abroad in our town that had to be cauterized.

The drastic remedy  gave us six new Councillors, including the Mayor, with no experience and little  background  in town affairs or even what t
the election was about.

All they did was offer to serve.

The job looks easy. It's not.

Council has put its  best foot forward. They've worked hard  with continued energy and enthusiasm.

The shortfall in  collective experience just could not be made up.  The legacy of problems was  terrible.  Corrections had to be made that took more than they had to give.

Michael Ignatieff has said he never realized until the night before the election the job was not about him.

It was about the people.

He thought he could be the Prime Minister of Canada without  even a sense of what the job was about
let alone the experience to handle it.

Ignatieff had a political party behind him that thought the same.

So don't be so down on yourself.

We did what we had to do.

The play goes on.

Accepting how it turned out is just the first step, I think. Some of us hadn't been involved in municipal politics much. It was an eye-opener.

You won't publish this, but I have to say it....

This is of course YOUR opinion and quite accurately, the opinion of others.

However, there are some who dispute the "evil" your speak of. Evil is a very strong word. Evil has been used to categorize Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussain, I would not consider the previous council in that league.

There are also some that would disagree with your statement about the experience factor. It's too easy for you to critique them because they do not have your experience. Your true motivation is because they disagree with you. The fact that they are "new", is an easy way for you to excuse their views. Everyone has to be new sometimes. If there were not "new" people there would not be new ideas.

The post that you are commenting on makes me sad though. What was this person expecting to happen? Historically, there is never significant change. I think that this council spent too much time tring to right the wrongs in the first year of their term. Rather than putting together policies and programs in place, the vindictive reversals made it look petty.

I agree with the poster. Some were very evil.

Why would you think that Evelyn would not print your comment? Except for your petty quibble about the semantics of the word ' evil ', there is nothing she would find objectionable. Evil, in whatever guise, should be called out when it appears - then maybe the larger Evils you cited could be kept at bay.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

Way to go 13:13... I read about this "news" days ago. That's how you keep current?

EVIL IS AS EVIL DOES.

If the stage had been any bigger, so too might have been the consequences.

No one was expecting a rose garden but the complete lack of co-operation, unity and laughter is distressing. Who'd have thought it all had to be so damn grim?

Feel better for that cheap-shot?

To 14:49 You just don't get it, do you?
Most of us are well past the stage where we have to tolerate grouching about our reading material, grammar and spelling. Try to get over yourself. It's a free ride.

(pssst, 19:33, 14:49 isn't who you think they are. BTW, you should be well past the stage where your goat is consistently got)
