"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

You...out there

I've never heard the phrase "Jewish lightning  " before.  I have no idea what it means . I took a chance it was harmless.

It was the former Mayor who made the  scarcely veiled threat about the police searching a councillor's  home .

I used  it to illustrate how the current Council is much improved over the last.
You had to be a part  of it to  appreciate what a nightmare it was.

I have received  a comment providing details about requirements for police to make a search  of a person's home , It's good information for people to know.

It affirms  how far the former Mayor was prepared to go to intimidate Councillors who failed to fall to her feet in fear and trembling.

If the contributor would please re-send without the reference to our current Mayor, I will publish it.

You can rest assured the police have no authority to search residences without appropriate judicial authorization. In a situation where the police deem it necessary to search a residence they would apply to a justice of the peace with an application for a search warrant. The police would set out their reasons in the application. The justice may or may not approve the application. If approved, there may be conditions applied such as the time frame and what may be searched.

You don't get paid enough. You don't get paid at all. It would be neat if you could print some ads & generate a bit of revenue since none of us read the ones on our screens anyhow. Maybe next year if it doesn't cause screams of Conflict of Interest ?

@18:56
The cops stopped paying attention to that character very early in her game.

I guess the comment is the one deleted by moderator.

I googled the phrase, I find it harmless.

Being Jewish, I found it to be a tempest in a teapot. Like so many attempts to divert Evelyn and her blog from from touchier subjects. Those trying such tactics should have learned by now that she can keep numerous balls in the air with ease.

I also just looked it up. I think that it is mildly offensive. It impugns the character of a religion, based on a negative stereotype. You were right to remove it.

You get yourself twisted up in knots for the most petty reasons. I truly hope you are never in a teaching position. Hallowe'een would be Scary Day, there would be no Christmas, and heaven forbid laughter.

"You don't get paid at all."

Please correct 19:25, Cllr Buck.

10:53... I suppose you are offended by lot's of things then. Grow a pair.

I'm not 10:53, but I agree with him/her. As for 12:52's disparaging comments; I don't find bigotry and prejudice to be part of any real laugh riot.

You can't censor life. By your standards the reference to chicken noodle soup should have been turfed too.

"10:53... I suppose you are offended by lot's (sic) of things then."

Well, if any of those things "impugns the character of a religion, based on a negative stereotype" then 10:53 should be offended - as should any decent person...with or without "a pair."

We proably should not have any more public performances of Othello either because "It impugns the character of a religion, based on a negative stereotype."

Evelyn's vocabulary is constantly expanding because she is not rigid. She is prepared to experiment and when she goofs, she does not repeat the error. This is her blog & we are fortunate to have it and her.
Shuddup !!!!!

"You can't censor life."

Only certain blog comments.

@18:17
You strike me as the sort of individual who accepts an invitation and then proceeds to criticize the way your host has decorated the rooms.
