"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

I See It That Way

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "About The Right To Be Wong":
"My job is to persuade others to see things my way."
Funny, I don't recall that being a councillors' function. Where does it say that?
********
Th Municipal Act has  little to say about a Councillor's function.
It mandates a calender at the beginning of a term.  A single business  meeting is required each month
The seat will be declared vacant if a member fails to show  for a period of three months.
Outside of that, each Councillor decides for him or herself how best to serve,
Each brings something to the table. Everyone  has a vote which  is the determining  factor.
It seems logical to me if I am convinced a particular direction is the community's best interest, must do everything in my power to persuade colleagues it's the way to go.
Passion has a place.
Hostility is a total waste of time.
There's always a new issue to be argued.
Votes are not expendable.
They are  the determining factor.
At close of  the term, people will decide on  logic of the  arguments, strength of conviction and oommitmnt to the process, likeability or lack thereof who gave their all and warrants  re-election.
We  liv in amazing times.
Council business can be followed on television, online streaming  blogs, tweets, twitters and facebook.
At the week-end it was reported , the Pope has a Twitter.,
All knowledge compiled  in  human history is accessible on Google
At some point, it  all has to make a difference.
